Description
Smith College offers a limited number of awards based on merit rather than need. All applicants for admission are automatically considered; there are no special application forms. Students are selected by the Office of Admission and must maintain satisfactory academic progress in order to have their scholarships renewed annually. Many of Smith's merit awards include a reduced loan expectation for those merit scholars with additional financial need. Merit aid is only offered at the time of admission.

Description
Each year a select number of applicants are identified as outstanding candidates and are awarded the Smith Presidential Scholarship. Presidential Scholars receive a merit-based award of $10,000 annually for four years. Continuation of the Presidential Scholarship each year is contingent upon maintaining good academic standing.

Description
The STRIDE program offers students with outstanding academic and personal qualifications a close working relationship with a faculty member during their first two years at Smith College. This scholarship is awarded to approximately 50 students each year. Aside from the award amount, students are also given an annual stipend of $2,450 each year for two years that is linked to research with faculty members. After the first two years, STRIDE scholars will receive the standard work-study allowance as part of their financial aid awards.
