In recognition of outstanding academic achievement, UW-La Crosse awards more than 400 merit-based scholarships to incoming students each year through a competitive scholarship awarding process. The Paul D. Koeller Scholarship is awarded to freshman, sophomore, junior or senior resident of La Crosse County or the La Crosse area (i.e., within 100 miles of La Crosse County) enrolled full time with any major. They must be in good academic standing. Financial need should be considered with preference given to someone who is working to pay their own way through college; consideration should be given to other scholarships and resources available to each applicant.

Description
The Richard & Ethel Thrune Scholarship for incoming freshmen is awarded to students selected from each school to Brookwood High School, Cashton High School and those from the Coon Valley area (must have attended Coon Valley Elementary School) served by Westby High School are eligible to apply. If there are no Westby High school students from Coon Valley Elementary School, the scholarship will be open to any Westby High school student that meets the other criteria. This scholarships is based on academic performance and participation in extracuricular activities. Personal interview may be required and letter of recommendation from a high school teacher is required.
